About Jewels of Java Teak Furniture
Teak furniture is a top choice for outdoor furniture, as its average lifespan is 75 years. Untreated, this beautiful hardwood holds up to season after season of any kind of harsh element. Putting Jewels of Java teak items into winter storage is unnecessary because this furniture resists water, weather, and warping as it mellows to a soft silver color. The grey/silver patina can be maintained by the application of teak oil once or twice a year, although this only affects the color, not the integrity of the wood, and most prefer the look of fine aged teak.
This high-grade teak comes from plantations in Indonesia, and Jewels of Java is proud to work with Perum Perhutani, the state-owned agency responsible for managing the conservation of the Indonesian teak forest. They ensure that no tree is harvested unless another is planted to replace it. The wood is then kiln-dried and constructed with mortise-and-tenon joinery, creating furniture to last a lifetime. Rest assured that when you purchase Jewels of Java, you've purchased an ethical legacy in addition to fine furniture.

Teak is a hardwood of choice for durable outdoor furniture. It requires little or no care and will last for many years. Initially, teak is a golden brown color. This color is derived from the natural oils in the wood. Exposure to the sun will naturally dry the oils and change the color to a silvery gray. This process can take 6 to 12 months, depending on the amount of exposure to the elements. As the weathering process occurs, you may notice small cracks (often called "checking" in the furniture), and the grain may rise slightly. This is normal and in no way affects the stability and integrity of the wood. The only maintenance your furniture requires is a periodic cleaning with a soft bristle brush and mild detergent (laundry detergent and water) work well. There are commercially available teak protectors and teak oils. Jewels of Java does not recommend any particular brands and does not warranty the use of these products. Use them at your discretion. Jewels of Java does not recommend Teak Oil for outdoors use. It significantly increases the maintenance of your furniture.
