Left untreated, your bench will weather naturally to a warm shade of gray. Oil-based wood stains will delay this process. Some assembly is required.
Shorea is possibly the best wood choice for outdoor furniture. While related to Burma teak, this hardwood grows naturally and plentifully in the Pacific Rim countries, making it considerably less expensive than teak. Because shorea contains an abundance of natural oils, is dense, heavy and hard, it is highly resistant to rot, bug infestation, wear and marring.
